Literature Text

"Any service performed for another, so as to cater to their needs, is an honor. From the high king himself to his regal army; from the royal guards to those in service to the law; from the cup bearers to armor bearers, to inn keepers and merchants, the household servant, the farmers and even the stable hand; all have a position of nobility as it is an honor to serve. For it is only through service that we are given a means to profound understanding of humility and submission. And from this also: a means to love and respect being refined.

"Service is not something to degrade mankind but rather to uplift and perfect it. Though in its uplifting it isn't meant to lift one above another but rather unite them to one common ground; because each person in service is placed where they need to be in accordance to the will of God. In our service to one another—as stewards of the responsibilities entrusted to us—it is but a shadow of the way we are to serve God. According to our talents do we serve, and that which is given us by the One who created all living things, do we then honor Him who made us through our gifts. And using our gifts in the way He has set up for us are we then uplifted.

"So because our Creator is the royal God of all majesty, wisdom and power, know that whether common or uncommon, disesteemed or esteemed in task, it is a kingly honor to serve."

Though this is from future brainstorming proceedings of my current novel project, there indeed is something to be said in humbling ones self with a servile attitude. Appreciation and gratitude can be added to these thoughts as they too become a part of the spirit of servility. There's nothing more precious than knowing how blessed you are with what it is you have, with what it is you've been entrusted with, especially if what you have and care for is little. Be gracious and appreciative in service, for should you take the time to realize servility's worth, then the richest of blessings will your character find.

I have to wonder, how much of this is ritual; how much, reality? This kind of thing reads like the post-modern citizen's guide to positive spirituality, conditioning for the acceptance of our lot in life to serve the rich... with all these adjectives and terms of positive reinforcement - royal, majesty, wisdom, power, kingly honor - which reduce to... serf. Pawn. Tool.

Ever feel tooled up? Are these kind of homilies, our daily bread, for the circus that is our lives? Inquiring minds wanna know! Cause I suffer for my Gwynnies, dammit!
